So Sony's Playstation 4 is the fastest selling console in history according to Forbes. Read it here at Forbes:http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2013/12/03/what-2-1-million-sales-means-for-ps4-owners/?partner=yahootix
Here's what Sony had to say about it:

It's an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn't have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible line-up of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.

Now for my input on all of this. First, some people may think when I say I chose the PS4 over the other two offerings as my starting purchase, that I am going all fan boy. Well......just NO. After gaming for 28 years of my 33 years here on earth if I'm a fanboy of any game company, I'd say Nintendo. That aside, with my years of gaming experience I feel I can (to a very good degree) call it as it is, as it's coming, and where it's going when it comes right down to it. I seen the writing on the wall so to speak. I knew where  gamers, much like myself, would see which company would offer the most gaming value (and more importantly) focus to drive the gaming industry forward.

To begin, Sony's total laser focus on gaming could not be ignored. Yes it could be that their back is up against the wall when you take the entire companies hardships in other sectors: Such as Sony TV's. Best part though, they did not just coward and sit ideal. No, someone made the choice to get back to basics with the Playstation Brand. Back to when games could have a playable demo for the public in 6 months, not over a year. Back to what made Playstation 1 and 2 such as huge success: Make it about the Games. Sony is the only other company on earth that can match and sometimes surpass Nintendo's first party exclusives, which says and means alot.  Everything else is just icing on the virtual cake. I don't see this lead Sony has now to change any time soon. This is Sony's generation to lose.

Microsoft's X1 will do fine. What strengths it my have in servers, I don't think will out weight the TV/Entertainment focus it has, thus not appearing as the gaming console it could be/should have been. When most people are "cutting the cord" when it comes to TV and Sports, Microsofts gamble on cable and satellite may be part of their undoing on the gaming console market. What made Xbox what it is/was with the original and 360, was not the entertainment options (even if they are nice to have) but what changes to gaming they brought. Party chat and Achievement's were brilliant additions. Games like Halo expanded console FPS's like no other before it when it released on the first Xbox. Where is the old Xbox brand when MS needed it the most. Well....they are watching wheel of fortune and football.

As for Nintendo, when someone wakes up that they actually"DO" have to compete, then things will start changing. I can not say enough about what Nintendo has done for the industry overall. Nintendo, to this day, still sets first party game standards. Nintendo used to set the standard for all of gaming for controlling our favorite games. First wireless controller on console. First thumb stick control. First to have feedback (rumble) in controllers. First shoulder buttons. Ect. ect.  They single handily saved gaming from the "great video game crash" in the 80's and arguable saved the industry again by reviving it to incredible heights with the Wii. The Wii U is a great console to play Nintendo's untouchable first party titles. Sadly, do to Nintendo's approach it decided to take, that is about all your going to get to play on their console. It's good for them to get their face kicked in a bit. Maybe next time they will mean business. All they have to do is exactly what Sony has done. Refocus on what made them great to begin with. If Nintendo does this, you can bet your ass they will be a incredible foe on the console battle grounds.

Ending, after all I took in, seen, and heard from the"big 3", Sony was the clear choice for this generation. Microsoft and Nintendo aren't going anywhere and I plan on owning the X1 and Wii U at some point. In my honest opinion all I'm saying is"Greatness awaits " and it's with the PS4 this generation.
