I like many people find myself to be a tad bit overweight. So with the urging of my doctor and an unforgiving mirror I've decided that now is as good a time as any to get myself back in shape. So now that I've made the decision to blast away the fat the question arises, how? The answer to that question may lie with Wii Fit U!
While Wii Fit U technically hasn't been released yet, Nintendo is currently offering a downloadable free trial of the new and improved Wii Fit, dubbed Wii Fit U. Nintendo is also allowing users to unlock and keep the full game if they acquire a Wii Fit Meter which is currently only available online. Also Nintendo seems to be giving out an extra free month if you already own a Wii Balance Board.
I've given both Wii Fit and Wii Fit U a try and I must say that if I had to choose between the two I would stick with Wii Fit U and here's why. The moment you begin to "play" Wii Fit U there are some very obvious differences when compared to it's predecessor, the most obvious difference being the interface. The interface of Wii Fit is very white and dull. It's extremely unexciting and less than enticing. But in Wii Fit U, while the interface is still white, much more is presented without creating an information overload. You're Mii is still displayed and so is your Balance Board buddy, but accompanying you are more colorful options, such as rankings and a gym community.
Another noteworthy addition to Wii Fit U is the Personal Trainer. Personal Trainer allows you to tailor your workout to your specific goals and needs. For example, trying to tone your body, there's a plan for that. Simply aiming to keep yourself active, there's a regimen for that. Say you want to specifically target your belly fat, there are workouts designed for that as well. Only want to burn a few extra calories, there's a plan for that too! Whatever your goal, Nintendo seems to have come prepared by providing the player with the option to pick and choose whatever they like to create the plan best for them!
One of my gripes with Wii Fit was that many of the exercises are locked when you first start. I suspect the reason for doing this is because the creators don't want people jumping in to exercises that their unfit bodies simply aren't ready for. But I'm an adult and I'd like to have the option. Nintendo rectifies this problem with Wii Fit U. With it being a demo version I can not say with one hundred percent certainty that everything I've seen is everything you really get, but I can say that it is definitely much more than what was initially offered in the beginning stages of Wii Fit. Now that I don't have to do the same three yoga poses anymore Wii Fit U is beginning to look like a viable addition to my weight loss plan!
Okay so maybe unlocked exercises, a personalized fitness plan, and a fresh new look isn't enough to persuade you that using Wii Fit U in my plan is a sensible decision. Well, did I mention that dancing has been added! Yes, dancing, something that was devastatingly absent from the original Wii Fit is now a fully fleshed out activity. I'm not much of a dancer but I've been known to bust a move or two when no one's looking. The addition of dancing not only provides me with the chance to express my inner B-Girl but it also allows me the chance to burn a few calories while I'm at it.
Adding to the list of neat little items that have been introduced is the option to transfer over your old data. Now it seems pretty obvious to me why this particular option wasn't in the original game, but it's presence in Wii Fit U is still very important. With the data transfer system you can simply pick up where you left off without any hassle. Now my progress chart starts from the very beginning of the journey instead of the first day I decided to take a gamble with Wii Fit U.
Speaking of progress tracking, did I mention that Wii Fit U allows you to take a picture of yourself so you can see your physical transformation! Ok, to be honest it's not my favorite new feature and that might have a lot to do with the fact that I don't like taking pictures. Or it might be because you can only take a picture of your face. And while I must say I do have an elegant bone structure hiding beneath my new found chubby cheeks that I'm eager to reunite with, it's not my face that I'm most excited to see transform. Regardless, it is a nice option to have and I'm sure that somebody is bound to like it.
All in all, I don't think Wii Fit U alone is going to lead me to weight loss victory but I do think that it will aid in the process. The exercises are fun and if done correctly can also be rather exhausting. And I believe that if I combine a good diet with Wii Fit U and other more conventional exercises, I'll reach my weight loss goals in no time!
