We all have our favorites when it comes to gaming. There is no right or wrong answer for what draws us to a brand. Perhaps it's nostalgia. Or maybe we got burned by a different company. Or maybe there are a few exclusives that pull us in. It could even be something as simple as "It's the system all my friends have." Whatever your reason is, just remember it is your reason and yours alone.
This time of year is always exciting. It brings with it more hype for gamers than any other time of the year. At the same time, however, it is also accompanied by a crazy amount of salt. You can't go more than 5 comments without someone bringing up some kind of biased justification for why their opinion should be taken as fact. Then of course that leads to retaliation in the form of some kind of random statistics or maybe just a fart joke. Both of which seem to be equally appropriate when you consider that the topic has no right answer.
I for one am willing to admit that I am a huge Sony fan. Some may even call me a fan boy, but I really hate that terminology and I don't consider myself one. A fan boy is someone who believes a system is superior simply because that's what they think and the only justification they can come up with are the major selling points for one console over the other and those justifications are usually interchangeable.
"Xbox is better because it has a better user interface, better online, better exclusives, and the best controller."
"PlayStation is better because it has a better user interface, better online, better exclusives, and the best controller."
Both of these statements need to start with "I think" and then they would be alright. Again there is no right opinion.
I think timing plays a huge roll as well as to what puts one brand seemingly ahead of another. I remember back in 2015 the XB1 had exclusive after exclusive led by games such as Quantum Break, Halo 5, Gears Remaster, Forza 6, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Sony felt like they didn't have anything substantial to compete. Fast forward to this year and it's a complete role reversal. Sony hasn't had as many massive titles come out, mainly just Horizon and Persona, but the total number of games has been impressive. Two Kingdom Hearts exclusives, Yakuza, Nioh, Gravity Rush 2, Nier, Tales of Berseria, Digimon, and a few others. I know that's a lot of random titles, but it is A LOT of random titles.
One thing that simply cannot be ignored are numbers. Numbers don't lie. I work at GameStop and recently I was curious as to how many physical games there were per console. The search results really surprised me. The PS4 has more than 100 physically released games compared to the XB1. Now I will state again, for the record, I AM A BIG SONY FAN, but regardless of that 100 games is a lot no matter how you look at it. Especially when you consider the fact that the two systems came out one week apart. This generation the PS4 sales are clearly ahead and I am absolutely loving every second of that. Especially after the horrible PS3 VS 360 generation. It was hard to be a Sony fan back then. Not only did Sony start a year later than Xbox, but it took them years to get any games that were worth praising and even though they had an extra year to prepare, their online lacked many features that made the 360 so great. I can't tell you how many times I used the 360 party chat while playing Demon's Souls with friends on PS3. The one thing I did learn for certain after the last generation though is you can never count a system out of the race. The XB1 could certainly mount a comeback. We will just have to wait and see.
I realize I strayed a bit off topic here. Ultimately what I want to express is this: Like what you want to like, play what you want to play, enjoy whatever makes you happy, but do so without telling someone else that their opinions are wrong or don't matter. Hate leads to the dark side! Now if you want to call someone out on their BS, like if someone tries to make their opinion factual or they make up data, then go for it, but let's be civil folks! It's E3! Enjoy it! Take it all in! It's truly a great time to be a gamer and this is my favorite weekend of the entire year! I hope we all get everything we want from the show this year and more!
