Before I start this blog I would like to warn that there are spoilers in this so be prepared. Also, Im judging only the season 1 of the walking dead tv show because there's only 1 season so far of the the game. Let's begin. To tell you the truth, I didn't don't care about the horror series. The only horror games I like are the walking dead and the last of us, but with that said I'm a big fan of both. The walikng dead I started watching whenever season 2 began. After that, I've been hooked. Whenever I heard they were making a game of the walking dead, I was nervous and excited. Luckly, Telltale pulled thorough and created a great game. Ever since the game has been out, I've been hearing alot of which is better: the game or the tv show? So I thought I would give my 2 cents about it because as great as both are, I believe the tv show is better.
Is it a blow out how much the tv show is then the game? No. You can say they both have a few flaws, and they both have great lead characters. They both can be really intense sometimes. The thing that sets them apart from each other I think our the supporting characters and the overall package.
Comparing each of the 2 first season, you can see that the walking dead game is better some ways. It does have more meaningful deaths. Lee's death was one of the saddest deaths in gaming. The tv show didn't have that many improtant deaths. Not many hit us in the heart like lee did, and he will always be remembered.(Even though Andrea's sister was pretty sad). Plus it was fun get to kind of create your own story of the walking dead game. It wasn't scripted. You didn't know what would happen next.
The thing that I think that the show does better, and that puts it above the game are 1. Overall content of the first seasons and 2. Supporting cast. The best character on the show was Rick easily, but Lee was better. Other then Lee and Clementine, were there really any good characters. Sure keeny was good, but everyone else was meh. I'm not saying the show's supporting cast is groundbreaking, but I just see them being better. You had Shane, Dale, Daryl, Andrea(Yeah I know. Meh), Glenn, Lori, and a bunch more were great characters that I really liked.
The main thing I said was overall content, and yes the show I think is better. Let's all go back to a year. When I say a year, I mean to last April. Whenever Episode 1 came out of the walking dead, we really liked it. We didn't declare it game of the year worthy, but it was a nice spot. Now fastforward to September(I think) when Episode 4 came out. We still had the same feeling. It was a good game with great narration, but nothing amazing. At the end of episode 4, it led us to a exciting/big finale. After the finale, the high praise just came out of no where saying this game is a masterpiece. Saying it's a clear shot for Game of the Year. Hello? Have you been paying attention? The ending of the game is better then the show, but the overall content isn't. The tv show was great television and kept getting better and better. The tv show season 1 was on another level comnpared to the game when you don't include the ending. I mean seriously before ending fun game that got you attached from the characters. After the ending, something on another level.
Don't get me wrong, The game is a blast. I might've attacked it some, but it is a great game. I dont think it's Game of the year worthy, and I certainly don't think it's trash. It's just overall, between the 2, I think the tv show was better. This is only season 1 though. The game still has 2 more seasons to catch up to the walking dead tv show. The tv show's second season wasn't the best. If season 2 of the game can be better then season 1, the game will probably be better. The tv show did deliver a strong 3rd season so time will tell how this match up turns out. I'm just excited to see how the 2 turn out to be later. For now though, in my opinion, the tv version of the walking dead is better the the videogame.
Thanks for reading my blog. So what do you think? Is it the show or the game? I hope you enjoyed my blog and Adios amigos!
