*Warning, this blog contains some BIG Spoilers for Halo Reach, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Metal Gear solid 4, Red dead redemption, Heavy Rain, Gears of war 2, Gears of war 3, Mass effect 3, The walking dead, and Batman Arkham city so be advised of SPOILERS*

Some of the things that make videogames great are great character. Whether it being the main character, a supporting character, or that one guy you pointed out in the background. It's really hard though when that character make an ultimate sacrifice. Many characters have done the ultimate sacrifice, but a few made my list. So grab your tissues, and lets look back at some of the saddest deaths in gaming. Let's see who they are, but first we have our Honorable mention:

Honorable mention:

Noble team 6 in Halo: Reach

Halo Reach was one of the first Halo I've played. It was an enjoyable experience that even though didn't have Master Chief, had some great characters in Noble Team 6. As I progressed through the story, I see each character one by one(Except Jun. Yeah!) get killed or sacrifice themselves for humanity. The one that probably hurt the most was when you played as 6 in the end and literately fight for your life. You would eventually lose, and 6 would make his last stand.

Roach and Ghost in Modern Warfare 2

Ghost has been one of the favorite and most talk about Call of duty character for a while after him and Roach's shocking Death in Modern warfare 2. You honestly didn't see it coming. After Roach(You) were wounded, Ghost carried/dragged you the pickup zone while on the way defend yourself by near by enemy. Once shepherd arrived, you thought you were saved right? Nope. He betrays you and kill both Roach and Ghost, and then he burns both bodies. It was truely a sad scene, and one of the more shocking betrayal I've seen.

Lets get started with number 10

10. Soap in Modern Warfare 3

Modern Warfare was the conclusion of the Modern warfare series(Maybe), and it ended with a solid campaign where almost all characters die. One of the saddest was Soap. In a attempt to assassinate Makarov, the plan goes wrong and you and price are carring Soap down the streets. Fighting off te bad guys. You finally get some help from a resistance group, and are saved. Except for someone. You take Soap inside where you see Price trying to save him, but ultimately can't. Soap does reveal that Yuri(Your character) and Makarov know each other. As a longtime fan of the series, it was sad to see Soap go. He was always there, and now he's gone. You will be missed Soap.

9. Big Boss in Metral Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

MGS4 was my first metal gear game I've ever played, and so far my only, but it was a blast. Throughout the story, you felt emotion, intensity, and overall a special game. Had some pretty big moments in the game, and some sad deaths. Probably one of the saddest deaths was the very long epilogue(It's a very long.). Just before Snake try to committe suicide, Big boss arrived with Major Zero. Big Boss revealed some pretty big stuff. Since MGS4 was my first MG game, I didn't relize Big boss was your father. As I watched as Big Boss said his final words, it was so sad. Seeing your father die in the game was just sad. You will be missed Big Boss.

8. About anyone in Heavy Rain, but if I had to choose one, then Ethan Mars from Heavy Rain

It was hard to choose one character because the whole game focused on 4 great characters. While death can be avvoided, it was sad to see them die. Especially Ethan Mars. All Ethan wanted to do was to save his sun. If you don't play the game right, you won't find your son and you commit suicide. If you get arrested, and your son dies, you commit suicide. Then if you go outside of the warehouse without your son, you die. Now it might not sound sad how I said it, but through the whole game, I wanted to find Ethan's son so bad, and failure was just sad. So play the game right, and your characters won't die.

7. Mordin Soleus from Mass effect 3

There are some big deaths in the Mass effect series. Some of the biggest deaths are in Mass effect 3. One of the saddest was Mordin Soleus. If you played the series, you should know that salarians and krogans don't get along well at all. So when Commander Sheperd came to try to save the krogans, he had to save them from this deady disease. Doing that mean sacrifice. What did Mordin do? He volunteered and sacrificed himself to save the krogans. It was really sad because the way he went out was so very sad. Of course if you told him not to do it, you'd try to shoot him, and you would kill him. I like version 1 death over version 2 if you ask me. You will be missed Mordin.

6. Dom's wife on Gears of war 2

Gears of war has always been a liked franchise. Everyone has really liked Marcus, but also Dom. Why? Because he's such a great character and so many bad things happen to him. One thing that happens is his wife dieing. As Marcus and Dom evacuate the prisoners, they search for Dom's wife. Sure enough, they found her severely disfigured and tramatized. She can't even talk. Dom is horrified about this. Dom had to do what you had to do and ended her life so she didn't have to suffer anymore. This was really emotional and I felt sorry for Dom. Been searching for so long, only to find out your wife is pratically dead. It was very sad, and we feel sorry for you Dom.

Now we're at the bottom half. Lets get started with number 5

5. Commander Shepard in Mass effect 3

You can say what you want about the ending, but I loved the ending. Mainly because of the ultimate sacrifice Commander shepard did in the end. It might've happen no matter what, but sometimes, you don't get a choice. I'm going to describe it his death the original way. After fighting to get through the citadel, Shephard gets severely wounded. He then walks up and enters the beam. He is then on the citadel. As he explores he sees some old friends. The Illusivce man and Anderson. The Illusive man is under the reapers control, and starts to control both of them. Long story short, Illusive man dies, Anderson is shot, and he dies sitting by Commander shepard. You are then transportted to the catalyst, and describe why this is happen. He then gives you 2 option. You can sacrifice yourself by becoming the reapers and by sacrificing, you can control them. Or you can destroy them on earth for now and they'll only leave. They will come back. I choose the sacrifice, and it was very hard. He did it for humanity, and I thought was great. Even though humanity hated how it ended(Just kidding), they provided new endings that I'm not going to describe. I like the first one's ending better. You will be missed shepard.

4. Dom from Gears of war 3

Like I said early, the Gears of War series has had some big moments. Probablyone of the biggest was Dom's death scene. While on one of their missions(I think it was an extraction), the Gears get overrun. As more, and more locust kept coming, they we're really getting hit. There was nothing to do. Then, Dom got an idea. He gets in to this truck and drives off. He goes, and then turns around to drive the truck into a big gas tank that would create a big enough explosion to kill the locust. The whole time, Marcus is telling him to stop, stand down, but Dom won't. His final words were "I'm comin Maria", and he sacrificing himself to destroy all the locust, and letting the Gears escape. It was very sad because even though I'm a Sony guy, when I've played Gears of war, I've always liked Dom. Who doesn't? To see him go out like that was very heroic, and very sad. Dom you will be missed.

I will say, I've never cried for a videogame, but these last 3 almost got me. It was hard, but here's your final 3.

3. Lee from The walking dead

At the end of episode 4, we saw Lee getting bite, and knew he was going to die. Then, in episode 5, you try your hardest to find clementine, and sure enough you do. After you look back at your decisions, and fight/kill this creepy guy, you save her. You then have to get you and her covered in zombie gore so she doesnt get killed. As you guys walk, she finds that her parents had turned and you faint. You wake up, and youre' really about to turn. You don't want that to happen. You tell Clemintine to kill you. She's scared to death and says she can't do it. In his final moments he retells some memories and tells her it ok. So, you then have a choice of shooting him, or escape and let him turn. I choose to shoot him because lee was such a great character that I just had to do it. I couldn't let him turn. Rest in Peace Lee.

2. The Joker in Batman Arkham City

This one shocked the heck out of me because I couldn't believe what Rocksteady did. They KILLED the JOKER. Through the whole game, you're trying to find the joker who tell you that the titan they used in Arkham Asylum was now deadly and was going to kill them inless they found a cure. So after many fights, Batman finds a cure cure himself, and heads to Joker. After facing a big battle against clayface, Joker stabs batman in the back, and batman drops the cure, ending Joker's chance of survival. What's great is the conversation they both have before Joker dies. Batman says "Want to know what's funny? Even after all these times of you trying to kill me, I'd still try to save you." Then the Joker laughs and says "That is funny." and dies with a smile on his face. Batman then carries Joker's lifeless body out of the theater, and out of Arkham City. It was very sad because Joker is one of the most famed characters in DC, and he's a villian. Probably one of the greatest villians on DC, or even Marvel for that. He was done so well by rocksteady and Mark hammil. He will be missed.

Now for number 1. The one you've all be waiting for. Let's get to it.

1. John Marston from Red dead Redemption

This one really hit hard. John Marston was one of my favorite videogame characters. He stood for saving his family, but wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Just like No Country for old men cover said "There's no clean getaways". John Marston was living his normal life with his family when, boom. His farm was attack. John and his family faught them off, and everyone was ok. Except Uncle. John told Jack and his wife to go on, and I'll catch up. They didn't at first, but then they rode off. John knew what was going to happen, and so did we. It was time to face his punishment. He walked out to a bunch of officers. So what did John do, pulled his gun out and took out as many officers as he could. In the end...

John was shot many times. In his final breathes, he didn't say a word. He just sat there. Then he died. John thought his slate was clean, but got backstapped in the end. You then play a epilogue where Jack avenges his father, but it was till sad to see John. You'll be greatly missed John Marston.

I think we all need a hug after this blog. I would like to thank everyone for your time and reading my blog. Hope you all enjoyed it. So what are your guys saddest videogame character's death? Thanks again for reading my blog, and thanks to everyone who comments. Thanks again, and Adios Amigos!
