Max payne is third person shooter set in the dark and seedy world of "noir york city." The game starts off with max leaving work to return home to his wife and baby girl, Only to find both of them brutally murdered. Now it's a few years later and max is a narc with one thing on his mind. find out who killed his wife and baby, And make them pay. Just as it seems to finally have a break in the case, Max's friend who has the answer gets shot by a mystery figure. With time running out before max gets himself killed by the mob or by the police, He has to find out who killed his wife and why, Who framed him with his friends murder and stop the distribution of the mysterious drug valkyr.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The gameplay in max payne still holds up after all this time. It's easy to learn and really fun once you get the hang of it. Later on in the game the gunplay can get a bit repetitive, If you play in short doses it is really fun. However there are a few problems with the gunplay for example, You'll be shooting at some random guy and you'll be right on the money, You should be getting a head shot but you're not. For some reason the aiming for me was a little off, I was shooting at this guy and my bullets were going to feet in front of the guy. This was a on again and off again thing for me. But otherwise the gunplay is still fun and holds up really well.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Some of the later missions in the game have very poor level design. Most of the levels are very linear, Which is not a bad thing but when they add platforming to the mix, It gets a bit crazy. There are a few missions that take place doing a nightmare, And those are where you start to see the platforming. Now the platforming that i keep talking about really sucks, Because you have to walk across a very tight beam and any movement will send you off the edge. For the most part the missions are very easy to just run through and kill a lot of guys.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Some of the most fun i had with max payne was using "bullettime." Bullettime lets you slow down time so you can get some pretty cool kills. One of the coolest feelings is walking in to a room using bullettime and just murdering everyone in there.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The sound in max payne can be a bit goofy. For the most part its great, you can hear the voices clearly, you can hear the bullets hitting the floor. But then there is the bad side of the sound which is the noise max makes when he walks. It sounds like he has horse shoes on his feet. As the game goes on i forgot about it, but it can be really annoying. Another cool part of the sound is when max narrates, it really adds to the dark noir tone of the game.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Max payne's graphics are not bad, They still hold up. you can tell that the characters are humans, But only just so. The faces are a bit creepy they only show one emotion. Then you have the shoulders which are very spiky. It's not the best graphics but at lest you can tell what they are.                                                                                                                                                                                                Overall, Max payne still holds up and is a fun game to replay. It may be a bit rough around the edges, but that should not stop you from playing it. The writing is noir-tastic and the cutscenes really add to the feel of the dark and seedy world of max payne. The sound is okay everything you need to hear, But when max starts walking the noise it makes gets old fast. The graphics are decent not bad,  but not great. The gameplay is still fun in short doses, Even with the bad aiming. All in all if you've got time to kill over the weekend, max payne is well worth a look.
