**Warning: There are some spoilers ahead for Read Dead Redemption**
Many of you today, reading my blog, have been playing video games for a long, long, time. I started with the a plug in joystick that had pac-man and other games installed (or maybe I just don't remember what it was) and since then I have played (and watched) some wonderful games. One day, my buddy brought by Shadow of Colossus and we beat it in a relatively short time period. I was amazed, and angered, by the many colossus that dotted the land.
Years after that I picked up Oblivion and Mass Effect, though I forgot in which order. Both titles were amazing and had the best story in any game I had ever played. I realized that this was what I wanted to do. I didn't think then that I could code and I don't I would enjoy it now. What I did know then and now is that I wanted to design amazing worlds! Write stories and feel like the master of my own universe! Just like Casey Hudson feels everyday working to make what Mass Effect is today and will be tomorrow! Todd Howard as well, both of them geniuses., but I digress.
To see what they had made, it was amazing!
I felt real emotions for the characters in these games! To give you a good example I had always favored Tali for a romance option. Primarily for her voice, and brains... When I made a new character I went with Ashley and it almost disgusted me when I saw Garrus and Tali together in ME3. Yuck!
I felt this same thing with Read Dead Redemption, seeing John Marston (SPOILER) die while his family escaped made me feel betrayed, it also made me fear for Jack...As soon as the gun was in his hand I knew what must be done...As soon as the bullet capped his head I knew it was finally over. I could put down the controller.
The Bioshock series is famous for three things, gameplay, art, and story... I agree 100% with all three. The city feels like a character of its own. Its like I was a white blood cell making my way through the veins of the city and fighting the splicer disease. As the end came into view I knew my decisions would make an impact on the city. I was the savior of little sisters and the Paragon of a city under siege.
When a game makes your gut feel funny, your palms sweat, and makes you gasp without realizing you did it. The best moment that comes to mind is when you ascend into the city in Bioshock: Infinite. You feel amazed that a city like this could harbor such an evil. For the first part of the game, it tricks you into believing your not in for the greatest fight of your life. It makes true emotions come to the surface of your being...Even if just for a little while...
Thanks for reading guys! Make sure to leave some feedback and for the more experienced bloggers to give me some advice! I am an aspiring writer and this is my way of honing my skills for the future! Make sure to check out my other blogs! I'm also a little confused on how to properly manage picture size if anyone would like to throw in there help...
