When I got out of bed today, if you would have told me that Nintendo is going to make a 2DS, I would said you were Crazy. But it actually happened. So here I am.
Now I realize that I'm writing this in the spur of the moment and some of the things I'm saying here may turn out to be false (or true for that matter) so forgive me if I misspeak and or predict the future.
5. 'One Screen'
According to an article on the InternetGamingNetwork, the 2DS only has 1 screen; there is only a divider between the top and bottom screen. So essentially, it's just one big touch screen. Even though they still went with the weird "Top screen is bigger model," I think this has some unique possibilities.
The reason this isn't high on the list? Unless Nintendo announces Fire Emblem or Legend of Zelda exclusive to the 2DS due to dual touch-screen features, I won't even care.
-1. The Name
I just think the name sounds stupid. That's it.
Seriously, how much time did Nintendo devote to naming the darn thing?
4. 3DS/DS compatibility
The DS has a MASSIVE library of amazing games, so does the 3DS (to an extent.) When it launches, the 2DS won't even have to worry about its launch line up; which is a big plus for new consoles.
-2. What' s the Gimmick?
You got to understand, that every time Nintendo made a new handheld (that wasn't an upgrade of a previous one) they've done something utterly new. Where's the originality here? This is just a box that plays games that I already have.
3. Price
It's a god thing that this isn't too expensive (relative to the 3DS). The low price can do nothing but help the 3DS. Plus, the less expensive the 2DS is, the less reluctant parents will be to get this for their 9 year olds.
-3. Timing
I don't think there's any way to build up for something like this, but some hints via Twitter would have been nice.
2. Toughness
I'm just going to assume that the guys and gals at Nintendo aren't Idiots, and therefore have taken the toughness of the 2DS into account. If that's the case then we shouldn't' have to worry about this system breaking if you drop it.
-4. Toughness
My Trust in Nintendo has faded since the announcement of the 2DS, but I still want to trust Nintendo the same way I want to get the Wind Waker U bundle (very, very badly.) Having that said, I don't think the 2DS will be that much tougher than the 3DS, unless the armor is thicker.
But, if the armor of the 2DS was as thick as the armor of the 3DS, then they would have the Space for this:
1.Bigger Battery/ Memory/ Both
(he's watching the trailer for X)
Let's assume for a moment, that the 2DS is the same size as the 3DS (with a little more space when you think about it, but that's not important.) If you take the 3D Technology out of a 3DS, what do you get? The 2DS, AND a lot more space. If Nintendo doesn't use this Space to thicken the Plastic armor of the 2DS (which they may well anyway), then they could use the space to give the 2DS more memory or a longer battery life.
How awesome would it be to have a system that could hold 20 downloaded 3DS games, put the battery life of the kindle to shame, AND could survive any drop?
-5. Any Incompatibility with the 3DS and DS
I love my 3DS/DS games. What would definitely suck is not being able to play them on the 2DS. Some games, its literally not possible. For example, Super Mario 3D land is THE most downloaded game on the Nintendo eshop (Last Time I checked it had upwards of 199k downloads) and sections of the game will be entirely impossible on the 2DS. Not to mention the puzzle in LOZ Phantom Hourglass that requires you to close the DS...
Well, those are my 5 best, and my 5 worst thoughts about the 2DS leave your thoughts in the comments below and have a nice day.
