*Warning: There are some spoilers for The walking dead game and Red dead redemption. Be careful.* Before I kick off this week addition of my Gaming Interview, I'd just wanted to say sorry for the delay. Got home very late last night and just couldn't do it. Anyways, it's here today. This week, are GI user question come from cerpintaxman and of course Jordolo is involved. I'll be interviewing one of the greatest videogame characters of alltime: John Marston. I don't think he needs any more introduction because he's John Marston. So let's get this interview started shall we.
1. What are some game series that you want carried from this gaming generation to the next, and what series do you want to not proceed in next generation?
It would be very interesting to see ModNation Racers come to next-gen consoles, reason being, more creativity. In the first ModNation Racers, it was a nice, I don't want to say relaxing, because you were shooting everyone with weapons, but it was definitely a satisfying racing experience. It was cool just to create your own kart, character, and track, but I feel that the "sharing" mechanism of the game wasn't fully utilized. This is an area of improvement that could be made transitioning into next-gen. While making "sharing" your creations a bigger priority than in the previous two ModNation games, it would be nice to see some expansion on the unique parts needed to make a kart, character, and track. Instead of having four locations to build a track, give me at least ten to work with. The kart and character customization would be bring even more fun and goofiness to the formula. This would be an interesting series to make it over into next-gen, and a well-deserving one.
On the other side of the coin, the series that I would not want to make it over to next-gen, is the Sly Cooper series, and I'll explain why. The Sly Cooper series is one of my favorite gaming series. The first three entries I enjoyed thoroughly and had a blast playing them. When the Sly Collection came out, I had to get it so I could revisit the series that had won me over with its creative gameplay and attractive art style. The fourth entry however; Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, did not cut it for me, it did not live up to the standards of the other three. While playing it, I lost interest within the first couple of hours, mostly because it felt the same to me, now that's not a bad thing by any stretch, the game still retained its creative gameplay and its attractive art style, but it felt different playing this one. I just don't think next-gen Sly would be different from PS2 Sly. I enjoyed Murray, Bentley, and Carmelita and of course Sly, but I'll just stick with my memories of the fantastic first 3 games of the Sly Cooper series.
2. I figured John Marston is probably one of, or is your favorite videogame character, but what's been some of your favorite videogames the generation? Least favorite?
There are a lot of great video game characters out there. All of them have there own story to tell, places to go, and things to do, but a few have landed in my Hall-of-Fame for video game characters. Ezio, from the Assassin's Creed series was a great video game character. From the moment I put in the Assassin's Creed 2 disc the first time, to when I finished AC: Revelations, Ezio remained a great video game character to play as. From the start, Ezio seemed like a bad***. He was just an ordinary guy in Italy, caught in a "Turf-War" per se and his character connected with me, and it didn't hurt that his story was interesting also.
One video game character that I couldn't stand was Larry from the Walking Dead Season 1. Hey man, I know its the zombie apocalypse but you don't have to be such a "Debbie Downer" about it. *MINOR SPOILER ALERT* Right when Lee walked in the pharmacy, I knew one person was going to be pissed off, and it turned out to be Larry. I was thinking to myself: "how soon can I feed you to the walkers?" *Kind of a Bigger SPOILER ALERT* But that was okay, because he was killed soon after, so yay! No more Larry.
3. What's been a few gaming moments that's stand out to you as one of the best gaming moments?
Almost the whole Walking Dead: Season 1 game can be considered a great gaming moment because almost every episode had its moments of greatness, but some other gaming moments stand out as well. *MAJOR SPOILER ALERT* At the end of Red Dead Redemption, I sent my son... ahh haha, the ending of Red Dead Redemption was a great and saddening moment in gaming. I knew from the title of the mission alone that that was it, no more after that. I did not see was coming whatsoever. I was hoping John would persist through and fight off the army trying to capture him, but in the end I guess it wasn't his day, he pretty much sacrificed himself opening those barn doors, and I got choked up at the end. The character I had come to know and respect was no more and his son and wife were all that were left. And of course, the revenge mission is the icing on the revenge cake. I wanted to send Edgar Ross to the morgue as soon as possible, I could taste revenge, and I when I got it, it was sweet. Another great gaming moment has to be in Batman: Arkham City. Clayface had always been one of my favorite Batman-associated characters and battling him in the final boss fight was intense. The journey to the fight was challenging in itself, taking out sniper after sniper so Bruce could walk in safely without getting shot to shreds. The final cutscene was as surprising as any alarm is in the morning after a good sleep, you don't expect it to happen but when it does, you just go along for the ride. The final result of the game left me shocked, jaw dropped onto the floor, it was a great moment to witness first-hand.
4. What do you think will come out first : Uncharted 4 or Halo 5 and why?
Halo 5 is going to out before Uncharted 4. In ways, Naughty Dog is like Rockstar, they do not rush games out into market, they take the time to craft a gaming masterpiece. I'm hoping that a new Uncharted is in fact in the works (another series I would love to see go to next-gen). Another reason that Halo 5 should come out before the next Uncharted is that, Naughty Dog hasn't fully given up on the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer experience. Naughty Dog still cranks out new hats, shirts, or what have you, and this helps the Uncharted fans remain happy with Uncharted 3. Granted, its been almost 2 years since Uncharted 3 came out, but it will probably take at least another 1 and a half to two years to finish a new Uncharted compared to the projected 1 year time frame release date of Halo 5, which is sure to please fans of the series and maybe even welcome some newcomers to the franchise.
5. If you could change one thing about Gameinformer, what would it be and why?
If I could change one thing about GI, it would be the ability to comment on reviews, I know it doesn't sound like much, but it would be interesting to what everyone has to say about a particular review (such as the upcoming GTA V). I often find myself feeling eager to say something while reading a review online, I scroll down, and I can't comment, it doesn't make me mad but it would be nice to see that feature appear on GI down the road.
6. What would be the number 1 game this generation that you haven't played, but wished you've had?
I'd have to say Bioshock Infinite because of all the positive reviews and feedback its gotten, its overwhelming how good the game must have been to get a 10 from GI. The real reason I didn't take on the Bioshock is because I wrote it off after playing the Bioshock 1 Demo, the style and atmosphere didn't feel right, and I probably just wrote off a very good series based on the first game's demo. Surely, the second entry in the Bioshock series had to improve upon the first one's flaws and that could've been another game I missed out on.
Random Question from me
7. What was the most funniest platinum you've achieved, and the most annoying platinum you have?
The funnest platinum that I've gotten had to be Assassin's Creed 2, which I believe was my first platinum. I wasn't even thinking about getting the platinum while playing it, which probably made it even more rewarding when I got it. It was so fun in Italy, I could play for hours on end without taking the disc out. And right after I got that first platinum, I started getting hungrier for more, which is why I have 16 as of now.
As for the most annoying platinum, that would have to be the L.A Noire platinum. I had to go online to see how to get a 5-star ranking for every case, but that wasn't even the worst part. I had to search for days just to drive every vehicle in the game, one of the most annoying trophies I have ever gotten. I had to go to every resource that was there, every website, every forum board, I had to find out where every vehicle was, and I was going to get one way or another because that was the last trophy I had until I got the platinum. I remember the moment when I got it, I was so relieved and excited that I had finally got the L.A Noire platinum and drove every vehicle in the game finally, it was worth it.
8. What's your favorite football team, who do you think goes to the Super Bowl, and who wins it all?
My favorite football team is the New England Patriots. They've had their problems during the offseason, Gronk getting multiple surgeries, Aaron Hernandez being indicted on a murder charge, and losing most of their top targets, but I've stood by them. Thursday night, I couldn't believe what was happening, the New York Jets were still hanging in there, but thankfully the Pats pulled out the win 13-10. I don't like how the offense looks, but the defense looks tough as nails, and that is what wins championships, defense. During their dynasty of super bowls ('01, '03, and '04) the defense was stout, they knew how to play and keep the offense out of the endzone. The Patriot's defense this year is shaping up to be the same this year, hard-nosed, aggressive, and hard to play against. I think that the Patriots will make it to the Super Bowl, I definitely hope so of course, but this year they will reach it, along with either the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, or Seattle Seahawks. No matter which NFC team comes to MetLife Stadium for Super Bowl XLVIII, the Patriots will prevail. I think the Tom Brady-driven offense will improve over the years, and the defense will continue to annoy each offense it plays against.
Question from GI User(cerpintaxman)
9. What kind of stupid sh** have you done in San Andreas or any other open world sandbox game?
Sometimes, while playing Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, I just kill every cop and sheriff in sight, just to get a higher and higher bounty every time. When I was playing the single player of RDR, I looked at the trophy list and saw the "Dastardly" trophy, a bronze trophy that required you to hogtie a woman, put her on the railroad tracks, and wait until a train came by to, well, kill her. So here I went, I hogtied a woman, most likely a prostitute based on her clothes, put her on my horse, and then I looked on the mini-map to see where the closest train was, and it was headed towards Armadillo. So I went a little ways ahead of the train, took her off my horse and put her on the tracks, and waited patiently. Here came the train....choo choo, while doing a drumroll in my head. When the train killed her and the trophy popped, it's hard to describe your state of mind when doing that, but I just went on with my life and sold my animal pelts.
Question from Jordolo
10. Who's your favorite actor and actress?
There are lots of good actors in today's film and entertainment industry. I like actors who are funny, and those who make good movies also, from the likes of Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp and Nicolas Cage, but someone is more entertaining than all three of them. Seth McFarlane, creator of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show, I could care less about the latter. Seth McFarlane is as funny of an acter as they come, from the hilarious Peter Griffin and Stan Smith Seth McFarlane may not be large on real-life acting, but when it comes to voicing characters, he's golden. I don't have a definitive favorite actress, but I will tell you one who has impressed me throughout her roles. Cameron Diaz has been in many movies, and has consistently impressed. Of course every actor and actress has their bad days but Cameron has been a jewel in terms of consistent performances that have delivered quality through the big screen.
That's it. Hope you all enjoy. I'd like to say thanks Cerpintaxman and Jordolo for the questions. Big thanks goes out to John Marston. It was very fun, you answered great, and I'm happy we did it. So what do you think of John's answers? Thanks for reading and commenting. Adios Amigos!
